One of the urgent demands is to generate bigger democratization in the global governance to make it better reflect the role and interests of countries' groups, notably the developing nations, stressed Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung.

The Vietnamese leader made the emphasis in his talking points delivered at the World Economic Forum (WEF) plenary session “Global governance redesigned” held on January 28 in Davos, Switzerland.

He underscored the need of reforming and enhancing the global governance system in the midst of deepening globalization, stating that “the reform requires efforts and activeness from each and every member of the international community.”

PM Dũng described G20 “a right step forward” because it “boasts a broader representation... compared with G8.” However, to increase the representation of G20, according to him, it is important to institutionalize the participation of such regional organizations like ASEAN and other international financial and monetary institutions in G20.

The Vietnamese PM asserted that ASEAN is a good example of regional governance mechanisms constituting an effective global governance.

The regional association has played a key role to the building of Asia-Pacific regional and inter-regional institutions as well as effectively contributed to the global governance institutions as a regional core organization for cooperation mechanisms.

“ASEAN represents the good will and desire of developing countries to develop an effective global governance,” stated PM Dung.

Calling for a bigger role of developing economies in maintaining, operating and building the governance system, PM Dung said that Việt Nam is by now ready and confident to make its contributions to creating a more equal and better life for the international community.
