Construction of thermoelectric plant in the Island district of Ly Son is projected to start in July 2009, a source from PPC office said.

Capitalized at 220 billion dong and invested by the Vietnam National Coal -Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the plant is to be built on a total area of 6 ha in the Island district’s commune of An Hai.

FO oil and coal-fuelled power plant, designed to be 6MW & two generators, is expected to be commissioned by 2011 to meet 30% of the island consumption.

Ly Son is an island, about 30 km offshore Quang Ngai coast in the east, with its population of some 18,000. The islanders, over the past years have faced scarcity of power for daily consumption owing to extreme costs to operate the existing diezel power generator.
