In 2008, hundreds of investors, most of them come from the countries of North-East Asia, visited Quang Ngai to study investment environment, a source from the newly-established Quang Ngai Investment Promotion Center (IPC) said.
Over 50 delegations, of which 20 were foreign enterprises, investigated investment situation in Dung Quat Economic Zone (DQEZ) and provincial industrial zones, the source said.
According to IPC, Hong Hai Group (Taiwan) focused on hi-tech project, while the Japanese steel processing leader, JFE, planed a steel project in Dung Quat Economic Zone, where Vietnamese firm of Tan Tao Group also projected to build an industry-service-inhabitant zone.
Looking forward to Quang Ngai as allure to investors, in recent years, the central province has been making more efforts in simplifying formarities, upgrading IZ’s infrastructures and pushing investment promotion.
The year 2008, as released, was significant for projects outside province’s IZs with total registered capital of over 2.4 trillion dong, such as sand project (Mo Duc district) invested by International Sapphire Joint Stock Company; eco-tour project invested by Anh Sao Co., Ltd and Vina Universal Paradise (Son Tinh district) invested by Tan Tao Group.
In 2009, IPC will look at investors from the countries of North-East Asia, i.e Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore, said by IPC director, Vo Muoi.
Hi-tech projects will be called for investment in DQEZ, the Director added.
So far, multi-sector DQEZ has attracted 161 projects, licenced & approved in principle, with total registered capital of up to 11 billion USD, of which 40 are in operation, while province’s IZs have also drawn 74 projects worth 3.2 trillion dong.
DQEZ - home to large-scale operating and developing plants, including the Vietnam’s first Refinery, Dung Quat Shipyard, heavy equipment-processing plant of Doosan heavy industry Co., Ltd, Polypropylene, steel-making plant of Tycoons Group, ect - has been changing into an attractive destination for hundreds of investors, domestic & foreign.
That is reason why this central province has requested the Vietnamese Prime Minister to enlarge DQEZ from 10,300 ha to 50,000 ha and develop it to be a heavy industrial petrochemical complex.
