Son Tinh District Authority of Quang Ngai Province has today 12 August 2008 released an amount of over VND 560 million to support 78 local fishermen to compensate for soaring fuel inputs consumed by their fishing boats.
This is the first fund release by the district to support the local fishermen in the light of Decision 289 QD-TTg by Vietnam’s Prime Minister which ensures the support in money for fishermen to cover their fuel expenses in fishing.
Son Tinh District plans to disburse another support amount by the end of this month, and is expected to complete the whole support program for fishermen in the coming October.
Fuel prices in Vietnam went up sharply early last month, leaving thounsands of fishermen throughout the country on the brink of “closing down”.
