An Intel curriculum on microelectronics packaging will be widely introduced at technological universities of Vietnam. This is Intel’s effort to improve human resources in Vietnam to serve its factory in the HCM City Hi-tech Park.
This curriculum was compiled by a group of high-ranking experts of Intel USA and professors at Arizona University (US). The curriculum is now used at Arizona State University, which trains and supplies the largest number of engineers for Intel USA.
Representative of Intel Vietnam, Ho Thu Uyen, said this is the first step of a long-term cooperation programme between Intel and technological universities in Vietnam in bringing advanced technological curricula from the US to Vietnam.
Thirty-five lecturers from five local universities, HCM City Polytechnic University, Hanoi Polytechnic University, Da Nang Polytechnic University, the HCM City University of Natural Sciences and the HCM City Technical Teacher Training University, will attend a course to research the curriculum.
In 2006 Intel announced it would invest $1 billion in its ATM plant in Vietnam, which is under construction and will become operational in the fourth quarter of 2009. This plant is part of Intel’s plan to expand its production in the world. This plant will recruit nearly 4,000 employees. However, Intel Vietnam is having difficulty finding qualified workers and engineers for this plant.
The ATM plant in HCM City is the seventh in Intel’s system of factories. Others are based in Penang and Kulim (Malaysia), Cavite (Philippines), Shanghai and Chengdu (China) and San Jose (Costa Rica).
