The two centers are parts of Support Network for People with Disabilities (SN-PWD) undertaken by East Meet West Foundation (EMW), a US NGO with fund from Ford Foundation and other Quang Ngai-based donors.
Dang Thuy Tram Hospital has been assisted over 1 bln. dong and Son Tinh Hospital around 370 mln dong for improving medical equipment and widening the two centers up to 500 m.sqr and 200 m.sqr respectively.
As EMW schedule goes, once the construction accomplished, the two hospital’s health workers would be trained physiotherapy skills for the sake of local disabled treatment.
As released by EMW Executive Director John Anner said SN-PWD, since started in Quang Ngai January 2007 with total fund of 15 bln dong and duration of 2006-11, has offered 200 free-of charge surgeries and 800 cases of physiotherapies as well as replantation of extremities for Quang Ngai People with disabilities.
EMW under SN-PWD also trained 500 local health workers in physiotherapies, rehabilitations and provided jobs for 87 peoples.
Reportedly, EMW started its projects in Quang Ngai in 2003. Most of programs and projects are dedicated to improving quality of life of low-income children and people. EMW key activities in Quang Ngai include building schools, kindergartens and healthcare stations, providing clean water systems and funding a surgery program to heal defects in children. A scholarship program to improve educational outcomes has considerably supported poor students to continue their schooling. Total EMW funds from 2003-08 is over US $ 778, 604.
