Quang Ngai Provincial Government has today 29 July 2008 met with representatives from Vietnam Electricity and Petroleum Corporation (VEPC) a geothermal power project proposed to be constructed in Duc Lan Commune, Mo Duc District.
VECP is said to have thought of investing in a thermal power plant with its designed capacity of 18.6 MW.
VEPC said it had chosen ORMAT, a world leading US group in the field of geothermal electricity, as its technical partner for the project.
ORMAT revealed in the said meeting this morning that it would provide a state-of-the-art and environment-friendly technology for the proposed power station.
Earlier, VEPC had also conducted another site survey in Nghia Thang geiser, Tu Nghia District (also in Quang Ngai Province) hoping for another geothermal power plant of similar capacity.
Quang Ngai Provincial Government was really interested in this conception of a geothermal power plant, confirming geothermal heat was one among important energy souces which were environment-friendly in the province.
A mission of German geothermal specialists was said to have come to the province in December last year for the same purpose.
