MP Nguyen Tan Dung paid his official visit to Quang Ngai (22/07/2008)

 
PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with the Refinery contractor, sub-contractors, investor and Quang Ngai authorities in Dung Quat site

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and  the Central Government delegation has just paid a visit to Quang Ngai province in his several-day-tour to central provinces from 19th to 20th July 2008.

 

The PM Dung took a site visit to Dung Quat Refinery packages of Breakwater, Jetty Port and EPC 1+4 & 2+3 after leaving Da Nang City.

 

As reported by Truong Quang Tuyen, Vice General Director of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and head of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery Project Management Board, by mid-July the General contractor of Technip has completed around 95 percent of the total workload, of which design work 100%, procurement 99.8% and construcon and installation approximately 84%.

 

Contractor and sub-contractor have so far mobilized over 11,000 workers to the site to kick off the final works, while investor has also sent around 300 engineers to cover supervision and check over for completed works for the coming up test-run.

 

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked all parties to joint more efforts in speeding up the construction and directed contractors to specially assure to project’s quality, safety, and the living of workers as well as co-ordinate with Quang Ngai Government to keep security and work out plans to deal with flood and storm in the coming up rainy season.

Meeting with Quang Ngai Authorities in the evening 19th July, PM Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated Quang Ngai’s first 6 month economic achievements, as reported by the provincial Chairman Nguyen Xuan Hue,  industrial production value was estimated at around VDN 1,363 billion, a y-o-y increase of 13.2%, accounting for 49.02% of the target set forth for the year, while export turnover increased 4.1% compared to the same period last year, incoming US$ 33.3 million; especially local tax collection completed over 50% of schedule, around VND 673 billion.

 

The PM, however, pointed out weaknesses over the past 6 months of the year, such as GDP growth was lower than plan; agriculture-forestry-fishery processing value down 3% compared to last year,  Winter-Summer crop yield was not so good, some large-scale projects were still delayed, meanwhile PCI increased 22 % compared to the same period last year.

 

He said Quang Ngai should focus on developing high-value industries and services to generate jobs for local people, particularly those living in Tay Tra and Tra Bong districts where 57.46 percent of the households were liveing below the poverty line.

The PM also expressed his please with fast development of Dung Quat Economic Zone, which had so far attracted 165 projects with a total registered capital of US$11 billion and created jobs for tens of thousands of local people and agreed the expansion proposal.

 

Premier Dung urged Quang Ngai to make a breakthrough in development; fully exploiting its potentials, including the oil refinery, deepwater seaport, labour force and good infrastructure, developing high-value industries and services as well.

 

He released that Central Government is calling investment for large-scale project of Da Nang-Dung Quat Highway, high speed of railway Da Nang-Quang Ngai, seaside highway of Dung Quat-Sa Huynh and Chu Lai Airport, that would create a favour opportunities for this 1.3 million population central province.

 

                            

                                                  PM donated TV to Dang Thuy Tram Health Station

 

Before leaving Quang Ngai, Mr Dung visited a hospital named after war martyr Dang Thuy Tram in Duc Pho district. He presented a Statue of the late President Ho Chi Minh and a 32-inch TV set to the hospital.
