According to a reliable source, PetroVietnam Board of Management has just submitted its expansion proposal of Dung Quat Refinery to the Prime Minister for approval, despite the fact that this plant shall not operate untill the end of February 2009.
This state-owned oil and gas group’s ambition specified in the proposal aims at raising the refinery’s capacity to 10 million ton of crude oil per year instead of the existing designed capacity of 6.5 million ton.
If approved, PetroVietnam shall cooperate with some foreign potential partners in studying the possibility of increasing the proportion of sour crude oil to be processed by the refinery, giving better economic benefits from the operation.
This change of input material, as explained by PetroVietnam, could also be a reasonable move to deal with the prsumable reduce in crude oil reserve of Bach Ho oil field, the country’s largest one.
