Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee (Provincial Administrative Body) has recently enacted regulations on flood and storm control, natural disaster mitigation, and search and rescue operation which has now entered into force across the province.
As required by the regulations, district and commune level people’s committees in frequently affected areas are bound to make natural disaster preparedness and response plans. The plans are supposed to include required resources and measures to deal with natural disasters in a most effective manner. Stand-by options are also required in case of unexpected incidents, covering possibilities of evacuation, search and rescue.
The regulations also state in detail responsibilities of specific bodies for information and communication, reporting, and supervising when any natural disaster occurs.
Quang Ngai is among flood-prone areas due to intensive raifall frequently triggered by typhoons during the rainy season. This province in central region of Vietnam averagely faces around 3 storms a year making landfall from the sea.
