The signing of an agreement between the French and Vietnamese legislatures would lay the foundation for boosting relationships, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong told French National Assembly President Bernard Accoyer yesterday.
Trong held talks with his French counterpart yesterday after a welcoming ceremony at the start of a three-day visit.
Accoyer applauded the Vietnamese legislature’s efforts to build a state governed by law.
He also spoke highly of contributions made by the Vietnamese community in France, considering it a bridge for relations between the two nations.
Chairman Trong said relations between the two countries had developed fruitfully and were expected to further prosper.
He said the two nations shared some similar characteristics and that the agreement to be signed between the two legislatures would further boost relations.
President Accoyer said he hoped for further ties, particularly in the economic sphere, in education, culture, science and technology.
The French legislative leader praised Vietnam for its socio-economic achievements and expressed delight in the co-operation between France and Viet Nam.
The two leaders then signed an agreement under which the two legislatures will increase exchanges as well as information and experience sharing, especially in law-making.
They also committed to increasing exchange visits by high-ranking delegations from the two law-making bodies and parliamentarians.
Both sides agreed to conduct reciprocal consultations between the national assemblies of Vietnam and France and cooperate in international and French speaking organisations, and in the Viet Nam-European Union relationship.
NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Paris yesterday on a three-day official visit to France at the invitation of Senate President Christian Poncelet.
