BIRD FLU OUTRAGES QUANG NGAI AGAIN (24/06/2008)

Culling the infected poultry

Depite enormous preventive efforts made by the provincial authorities, bird flu has in fact outbroken in some communities in the province of Quang Ngai after some time casting a shadow over the province’s poultry.

The avian influenza was first detected on 9 June 2008 in Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung’s flock of My Danh Hamlet, Tinh Hiep Commune, Son Tinh District, killing some 120 chickens and ducks.

The disease was then soon found in Mr. Nguyen Duy Linh’s livestock in My Danh hamlet, Tinh Hiep Commune on 17 June 2008, and in Mr. Nguyen Duy Nam’s flock in Binh Bac hamlet, Tinh Binh Commune just one day later on 18 June 2008, killing hundreds of poultry respectively.

The dead poultry had been tested positive with H5 virus. And the flu then was proposed to be officially declared across the province.

And the culling has been conducted wherever the disease is detected as a measure to contain the spread of the pandemic. Over 2000 infected poultry have so far been culled, mainly in the province’s district of Son Tinh.

Quang Ngai Provincial Government is reported to have taken drastic actions to put the pandemic under control in the soonest time.
