The Foreign Ministry on June 18 announced that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay an official visit to the US from June 23-26.
On the same day, the White House’s website published an announcement about the Vietnamese PM’s visit. According to the announcement, the US President George W. Bush will welcome Vietnamese Prime Minister to the White House on June 24.
“The President welcomes the opportunity to talk to Prime Minister Dung about ways to advance our close bilateral cooperation on a broad range of issues, including ASEAN, the United Nations Security Council, education, energy and climate change, food security, and regional economic integration,” the announcement says.
The statement points out that the U.S.-Vietnam relationship is grounded in the shared commitment to a strong trade relationship, regional security and prosperity, and health and education cooperation”.
According to the statement, the two leaders will discuss human rights and the freedoms of speech, religion, and assembly at the meeting.
