Viet Nam will host the largest international festival of gongs in Pleiku city, the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai in March next year according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Artisans from five countries – Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, China and Japan – are expected to participate in the festival together with 11 troupes from the Central Highlands like the Muong, Cham, Khmer and Thai from Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak and Dak Nong.
The gong festival will feature three aspects: gong performances, a photograph exhibition and a seminar aimed at preserving Vietnamese gongs – a unique part of the country’s heritage which has also received recognition from UNESCO.
