The number was raised by Quang Ngai Red Cross at the Workshop of reviewing School Hygiene and Nutrition Training Project (SHNTP) in Quang Ngai during 2006-2008 held on 3rd June, 2008.
Since started in 2006, Quang Ngai-based SHNTP has given effective outcomes, decreasing the rate of malnourished children to 26.6% from that of 40.7% recorded in 2006 and especially downing a large quantity of parasitic worms-effected children.
Reportedly, SHNTP donated by US Department of Agriculture co-ordinated by American Red Cross and Viet Nam Red Cross covered 6 Vietnam’s provinces of Quang Ngai, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Dien Bien and Lai Chau with total amount of $ 4.23 million.
In Quang Ngai, the program was implemented in 27 Primary schools in 26 rural-root remote communes of 3 provincial upland districts; Son Ha, Ba To and Tra Bong.
As reported, over 10,000 malnourished ethnic children from 06 -11were daily provided cakes, milk and healthcare in term, while over 8000 mothers in 26 communes were educated the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI).
