Sai Gon Joint-Stock Mineral Company has recently approved by Quang Ngai Provincial Government to make a search of a sandbar area of Chau Tan, Chau Me and Chau Thuan Bien of Binh Chau Commune, Binh Son District for natural resources namely titanium.
An area of 192 ha is estimated to be under exploration by the company to search for titanium, a corrosion-resistant silvery metallic chemical element that occurs in rutile and ilmenite and whose strength and light weight make it useful in the manufacture of alloys for the aerospace industry.
Sai Gon Joint-Stock Mineral Company has in fact invested some VND 60 billion to set up a 50,000-tonne-per-year titanium refining plant in Quang Ngai’s Tinh Phong Industrial Zone.
