QUANG NGAI FACES PIG DISEASE AGAIN (11/04/2008)

Quang Ngai Provincial Government has urgently urged its relevant longer arms to get well prepared to deal with the imminent outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), commonly known as “blue ear disease” in domestic pigs.

The Provincial Government has requested Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and Department of Animal Health to impose strict supervision measures on trading, slaughter and transportation of pigs throughout the province.

Earlier, Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, in a bid to contain bird flu pandemic, decided to establish a provisional quarantine checkpoint right on the National Highway 1A in Binh Chanh Commune of the northern district of Binh Son.

Last year PRRS severely attacked Quang Ngai’s two districts of Tu Nghia and Mo Duc, bringing about serious economic losses to not only the pig-raising farmers in the areas but also others throughout the province.
