Almost all contractors in Dung Quat Economic Zone have urgently mobilized all resources, workers and machineries to site to push up the construction progress, racing with the upcoming rainy season, a source from Dung Quat Economic Zone Authority said (DEZA).
On the Refinery site, the General Contractor of Technip Consortium (TPC) and all other sub-Contractors have joined efforts in finding ways to deal with the potential impacts on construction works by the upcoming flood and storm season.
"Plans, to keep construction works free of damage caused by extreme weather, are urgently worked out" said by Le Roy Bruno - TPC's Site Manager. "We are to reinforce outfall systems, concrete some low lying & muddy areas and establish an instant 400 member force as well as equipments just in case of bad situation," he added.
Currently, sub-contractors of LILAMA, NIPPON EXPRESS (Japan) TCC (China) are in a hurry to complete important milestones of the project. So far, over 330 technical equipments of the Refinery have already been installed.
As reported by Dung Quat Refinery Management Board, overview progress of the EPC 1+4 & 2+3 reaches 82% of contracted schedule. Some of 44 installed tanks are completed and under loading capacity test. To date 1,100 of 1,636 the Refinery equipments have been mobilized to site. It is expected almost the Refinery's over sized important equipments will be completely installed by late October.
Regarding EPC 5B-Jetty Port, contractors of PTSC, CIENCO1 right now attempt to complete concrete work before the coming rainy season. The contractors, to date, completed the Jetty foundation work with 2,238 piles driven & 820 piles drilled, casted 2000 m3 concrete surface of berth No.5 & 6 of the Jetty and accomplished 90% of the cast-in-place pre-stressed concrete beam schedule. This EPC Package 5B is expected to be completed and handed over to Technip Consortium, the General Contractor this November.

Contrary to EPC 5B, EPC 5A (Breakwater) is said to be stronger in this rainy season. The Contractor of Van Oord embanked 7000 accropodes (wave-breaking concrete structure) and 1.5 million tons of rock along the Breakwater which is now 1, 600m long & +4 m high.
In a way much different from Technip Contractor, Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam, who owning the USD 260 million project under construction in Dung Quat to produce machines for power generation, seawater filtration and steel making, has making efforts in upgrading 2 km of drainage system to protect the site from flood water, said Kim Jeong Woo-manager of Human Resource Department.
While, recently DEZA said to invest over VND 200 million in upgrading damaged roads in the zone before the rainy season.
According to DEZA, the zone has so far attracted a soaring investment amount of $ 8.64 billion from 125 projects, of which $ 5.22 bln from 76 licensed projects and $ 3.43 billion from 34 approved in principle.
