7 days, 250,000 mobile calls (27/11/2006)

The telecommunication system was protected at highest security during APEC summit by the largest ever mobilized force, said Bui Thien Minh – Deputy CEO of VNPT Group. There were a record number of mobile calls.

One of the most complicated task was installing new cables ranging from 50 to 100 twin cables to 12 hotels namely Daewoo, Hilton, Melia, Horison, Nikko, Sofitel Metropole, Sofitel Plaza, Sheraton, Fortuna, Thang Loi, Ha Noi, and Hanoi Tower where heads of states stayed. This was a big increase from the initial project. The transmission through newly installed cables was good. Internet ADSL and TSL and cable speeds met the requirements of each customer, of which the highest speed requirement was 4 Mbps for the American delegation. There was no claim on service quality. And the American delegation emailed to thank the Ha Noi post office.

LAN with 1,000 internet points and 10 wireless access points with 1 Gbps speed at the NCC was installed, but there appeared to be 20 – 25 internet points on average at each meeting here. At the busiest time there were more than 520 desktops and 100 notebooks to access the internet. However the transmission was well maintained. Telecommunication services such as phone, fax, and internet in the rooms of heads of states, in meeting rooms and room of organization committee was connected to the main switchboard via solar cables.

Meanwhile, VTI (Vietnam Telecom International) broadcasted internationally 500 times with the total time of 20,000 minutes. Calls via Vinaphone during the week in the NCC were 38,000, via MobiFone were 50,000, from mobile cars of MobiFone were 103,000, and from the direct station for the NCC were more than 82,000. At the busiest time, transmission through Vinaphone stations reached almost 100% of capacity. Two providers of VNPT Group installed Inbuilding systems at some top hotels where heads of states stayed to ensure the top quality of mobile phone waves.
