A project on providing information technology and telecommunications for Viet Nam's communes was launched in Ha Noi on Monday by Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen and Rubens Ricupero, Secretary General of the United Nations Conference of Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The project, called "Lang Viet" (Vietnamese villages), aims to provide trade information and communications technology for rural development.
Under the project, farmers are able to have access to the latest information about prices of goods, healthcare, education and other concerns through the Internet. With this information, farmers will find it easier to decide what crops should be cultivated, what animals be raised, where to purchase materials and what measures to be worked to improve their living conditions.
At first, it will be carried out in seven communes in six provinces namely Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, An Giang, Ha Tay, Thai Binh and Nghe An.
Depending on its mobilized capital, the project may be expanded to all communes across the country, said Ricupero.
